In this study, a one-dimensional defective photonic structure for the detection of magnetic fluid in the presence of an external magnetic field has been theoretically examined by using TMM. The principle of capillary action has been used for injecting the magnetic fluid under consideration into the cavity region of the proposed photonic structure. The sensing capability of the structure has been examined by analyzing the presence of defect mode inside the photonic bandgap of the structure under normal incidence condition only for neglecting the problems involved during oblique incidence. We have optimized the thickness of the cavity layer as 670 nm in order to achieve high value of sensitivity 312.50 nm/RIU from the proposed design under the influence of an external magnetic field of value 210 Oe. Apart from sensitivity, we have also examined figure-of-merit and quality factor values of the suggested design to establish support toward our claim of designing of sensitive magnetic sensor composed of one-dimensional defective photonic structure. The work can be used for designing of some novel photonic structures for sensing and detection of magnetic field strength via magnetic fluid. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
