A recent report from the Ministry of Health discusses the use of yolk sac size and shape as predictors of first-trimester pregnancy outcome. The study, conducted on 100 healthy women with singleton pregnancies, found that irregular shape and larger diameter of the yolk sac were significant predictors of pregnancy outcome. The researchers concluded that ultrasound measurement of the yolk sac during early gestation is a valuable and noninvasive technique for examining and diagnosing pregnant women.
