A pilot study conducted by researchers at the University of Amsterdam has proposed a new reference plane, called the Acta plane, for the virtual orientation of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) scans. The Acta plane was found to be a reliable alternative to the current orientation planes, which are dependent on the Porion points. The study also suggested that the Acta plane could potentially allow for a smaller field of view and a reduction in radiation dose. The research was published in the journal Applied Sciences.
