Researchers from Hospital Foch in Suresnes, France have conducted a feasibility study on the use of segmental hair analysis to monitor the therapeutic drug levels of inhaled corticosteroids and bronchodilators in patients with asthma. The study found that hair concentrations of these medications reflected exposure over a month and showed low intrapatient variability. This non-invasive method of assessing monthly drug exposure could potentially help physicians personalize drug regimens for patients with difficult-to-treat asthma. The study was supported by Astrazeneca and published in Frontiers in Pharmacology. [Extracted from the article] |
