A recent report from Chongqing Medical University in China discusses the challenges of treating periodontitis in patients with diabetes and presents a potential solution using a novel drug delivery system. The researchers developed a dual drug-loading nanocarrier system that releases antioxidant and antimicrobial agents in response to lipase stimulation and the low pH of the inflammatory microenvironment. In vivo and in vitro studies showed that this system inhibited the formation of subgingival microbial colonies, promoted osteogenic differentiation of cells, and ameliorated periodontal bone resorption. The researchers believe that this drug-delivery strategy has the potential to effectively inhibit diabetes-associated periodontal bone loss. [Extracted from the article] |
