Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers at Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) College of Medicine and Milton S. Hershey Medical Center has provided new data on anesthesia and critical care medicine. The study found that gastric content aspiration, which occurs during general anesthesia, has a 20% incidence of in-hospital mortality. Pulmonary aspiration, a related complication, is associated with half of airway-related mortality linked with anesthesia. The researchers suggest that gastric ultrasound can be a valuable tool for determining gastric contents in patients, particularly when fasting guidelines have not been followed. Further research is needed to understand the impact of gastric ultrasound assessment on perioperative outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
