A report from Massachusetts General Hospital discusses the development and initial validation of a tool called the Massachusetts General Hospital Neuropathy Exam Tool (MAGNET) for evaluating distal small-fiber neuropathy (SFN). SFN is difficult to diagnose due to its subjective symptoms and signs, and confirmatory testing is often unavailable or expensive. The MAGNET tool was tested on 160 symptomatic patients and 37 healthy volunteers, and it showed good diagnostic performance and reliability. The researchers concluded that MAGNET can quickly generate research-quality metrics during clinical examinations. This research has been peer-reviewed. [Extracted from the article] |
