Researchers at Novosibirsk State University in Russia have conducted a study on Parkinson's disease (PD), a neurodegenerative disorder that is the second most prevalent after Alzheimer's disease. The study aimed to create a model to better understand the mechanisms of PD and found that astrocytes, a type of cell in the brain, may play a role in the disease. The researchers generated induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines from a patient with a specific mutation associated with PD and differentiated them into astrocytes. This cell model can be used to further study the involvement of astrocytes in PD. [Extracted from the article] |
