A recent study conducted in the Veterans Affairs population examined the compliance with recommended pneumococcal vaccination schedules in patients treated for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The study found that the proportion of patients considered vaccine compliant was 43.9%. Factors associated with vaccine non-compliance included black/African American race, missing/unknown race or ethnicity, marital status (never married or widowed), and comorbidities such as congestive heart failure or dementia. The researchers concluded that efforts to increase vaccination should be tailored to specific high-risk groups. [Extracted from the article] |
