A recent study conducted by the University of Jyvaskyla in Finland explores the development of sim racing in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region between 1997 and 2021. The study involved interviews with experts in sim racing associations, event organizers, and teams. The findings reveal that sim racing has evolved as a hybrid of esports and motorsports, with its history differing from that of traditional esports due to its dependence on the motorsports ecosystem. The study also suggests that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a positive impact on the growth of sim racing. [Extracted from the article] |
