A study conducted by researchers at the University 'Magna Graecia' Catanzaro in Italy examined the use of perampanel as an add-on treatment for epilepsy in elderly patients. The study found that perampanel was effective and well-tolerated in this population, with a high retention rate and a significant reduction in seizure frequency. The responder rate, defined as a 50% reduction in baseline seizure frequency, was 89.7%, and the seizure freedom rate was 72.4%. Adverse events, such as dizziness and irritability, occurred in 34.9% of patients. The study suggests that perampanel is a suitable therapeutic option for elderly individuals with epilepsy.
