Abstrakt: Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science in which computer systems are designed to perform tasks that mimic human intelligence. The AI technology is advancing at a rapid pace and is increasingly integrated into many areas of our life and work. It is crucial that we explore its potential impact on veterinary medicine, the veterinary workforce and animal welfare. From veterinary education to diagnostics, treatment, communications and workflows, AI impacts even more in breadth and depth across the veterinary industry. Given the complexity and subjectivity associated with evaluating medical images, as well as the difficulties inherent in handling animals, automating the analysis process using deep learning and artificial intelligence techniques would be highly beneficial. The AI-enabled computer applications will help primary care physicians to better identify patients who require extra attention and to provide personalized protocols for each individual. The AI technology provides accurate, efficient, consistent and rapid diagnosis, reduce workload, reduce human error, has no fatigue and is cost effective. The true power of AI lies in augmenting human understanding and freeing up more of our human resource for those social and relational duties that AI is unlikely to replace. Rather than concerning ourselves with skills loss or being replaced by machines, the profession will have to figure out how to live with AI 'colleagues' and integrate them into working life.
