Abstrakt: This article presents several abstracts of papers on the treatment of tachycardia through ventricular defibrillation. The study "Activation Patterns Following Defibrillation With Different Waveforms," by Robert G. Walker and his colleagues, compared post-shock earliest activation locations for 3 different waveforms across a range of shock strengths. In 6 dogs the heart was exposed and a 510 electrode sock with approximately 4mm interelectrode spacing was pulled over the apex and sutured to the AV groove. The study "MK-499, a New Class III Agent, Reduces Defibrillation Threshold in Patients With Chronically Implanted Cardioverter Denbrillators," by William M. Bailey and colleagues, hypothesized that MK-499 would lower defibrillation threshold in patients with chronically implanted cardioverter defibrillator systems (ICD). To test the hypothesis, 15 patients with ICD's were enrolled in a prospective randomized double blind placebo controlled trial of intravenous MK-499 vs. placebo.
