FDM is an additive manufacturing technology that is effectively used in the foundry for the manufacture of master models and consumable patterns. This method is economical for piece-production, since it does not require the manufacture of expensive metal tooling. However, the surface roughness of models made using FDM printing is significantly higher than that of wax models produced in the traditional way, which ultimately affects the roughness of the castings obtained. FDM printing technology is particularly suitable for producing models with internal channels and cavities due to the use of water-soluble support materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
