Abstrakt: The banana (Musa spp.) is a native Indonesian plant with the characteristics of a large herbaceous plant. The height of a banana varies from 1-4 meters, with broad and long leaves. Wild and cultivated bananas can be found on Java Island, including in Kalikuning and the Kaliurang Special Purpose Forest Area (Kawasan Hutan Dengan Tujuan Khusus - KHDTK) Kaliurang - Gunung Merapi National Park. There are 325 banana cultivars recorded in Indonesia, and the diversity of banana species needs to be investigated further because it is a source of germplasm, especially in the Kaliurang research forest area. The research method is descriptive with field observations, identifying the types of wild and cultivated bananas found in Gunung Merapi National Park. The parameters observed were the morphological characteristics of banana plants. The field observations found that there are 12 clumps of banana plants in the Kalikuning area and three clumps of banana plants in the KHDTK area of Kaliurang. The morphological identification of banana species based on banana descriptors from the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI) – INIBAP showed that most of the bananas have Musa acuminata characteristics, except for Musa spp (sample number 6), which showed Musa balbisiana. Bananas in the Kalikuning area were predicted as Pisang Raja (Musa x paradisiaca AAB). Characteristics of banana Pisang Raja are dull (waxy) pseudostem appearance and erect leaf habit. Pseudostem color is green-lighting, watery sap color, petiole canal leaf III is open with margin spreading, petiole margin color is green to red. The shape of the leaf blade base is both sides pointed. The other banana still can not be identified because of the lack of generative phase characteristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
