Abstrakt: This article reports on the outbreak of H5N1 avian influenza in southern elephant seals at Península Valdés in Argentina. The virus was confirmed by the Argentine Government Animal Health Service, and the findings were reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health. The outbreak resulted in a high mortality rate among elephant seal pups, with estimates suggesting that over 17,400 pups may have died. Adult seals were also affected, and there are concerns about the potential spread of the disease to other marine mammal species. The article emphasizes the need for monitoring and preventive measures to protect public health. [Extracted from the article]
