A recent study conducted at the Malabar Cancer Center in Kerala, India, aimed to estimate the prevalence of preoperative anxiety and depression in patients undergoing major oncologic surgeries. The study found that almost one in four patients experienced preoperative anxiety, and one in six had depression. The presence of depression significantly contributed to anxiety, and patients who screened positive for depression had higher odds of screening positive for anxiety. The researchers suggest that providing more information and preoperative counseling to patients could help reduce anxiety and depression. [Extracted from the article] |
