A recent study conducted by researchers at Khon Kaen University in Thailand explored a practical measure for detecting sarcopenia, a condition characterized by the gradual loss of muscle mass in older adults. The researchers developed a seated push-up test called the ULL-SPUT, which involves measuring upper limb loading. The study found that the ULL-SPUT index could effectively identify participants with sarcopenia, making it a useful screening tool in various clinical, community, and home settings. The researchers suggest that this practical measure could help identify at-risk older adults and initiate timely management to promote treatment effectiveness. [Extracted from the article] |
