Abstrakt: Gun violence is the leading cause of pediatric injuries, according to researchers at the University of North Texas. The study examined the correlates of intentional and unintentional firearm-related injuries among pediatric patients in a Level-1 pediatric hospital. The results showed that patients in later developmental stages, particularly adolescence, and those with higher ACE scores were more likely to experience intentional firearm injuries. The study highlights the structural factors that increase the risk of firearm violence, including poverty and systemic racism. The researchers suggest the need for expanded hospital- and school-based violence prevention programs. [Extracted from the article]
