The research aims to study the metabolite content, in vitro DPPH scavenging activity, and anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activity of the ethanol leaf extract of Pelawan (Tristaniopsis merguensis). The extract contains phenolic (346 mg/g), total flavonoids (50 mg/g), alkaloid (29 mg/g), steroid (43 mg/g), and saponin (8 mg/g). Metabolite profiles reveal that there are 19 compounds with major substances provisionally identified as caryophyllene, a selinene, ß selinene, guaia-1(10),11-diene, selina-3,7(11)-diene, à-acorenol, humulene, isoleden, ethyl iso-allocholate, and caryophyllene-oxide. The extract has a potent antioxidant property and an anti-inflammatory capacity with an IC50 of 19.22 mg/ml and 73 mg/ml respectively. Plant extracts were found to have antimicrobial activity adjacent to Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Salmonella typhi, and Escherichia coli at a minimum concentration of 1,000 ppm. This study concludes that the ethanolic extract of T. merguensis has a perspective as a novel of natural antioxidant and antibacterial compounds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
