This article discusses a case of peripheral facial paralysis as a complication of acute hepatitis E, which is the first reported case in Europe. The article questions the conclusion that routine testing for hepatitis E is not recommended, stating that caution is necessary due to the limitations of the study. The authors argue that serological screening for hepatitis E should be included in the evaluation of patients with peripheral facial paralysis, as it is a relatively low-cost procedure and can provide important diagnostic information. They also mention the potential neurotropic effects of hepatitis E and the existence of antiviral treatment for the virus. [Extracted from the article] |
