In the field of emigration and the mobility of individuals in the ancient world, few studies have addressed the presence of Greeks from Sicily and Magna Graecia and of Italics from the southern regions towards the Adriatic Sea, as evidenced by inscriptions. At present, we can verify their presence on the basis of onoma‑ stics, composed almost exclusively of the individual's proper name, sometimes followed by the patronymic and, in an isolated case, the ethnic. The evidence concerning Magna Graecia is very doubtful. Individuals from this area are apparently absent from the Greek epigraphy of the Adriatic Sea, whereas they are well present south of the Otranto Channel. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
