The present work aims to illustrate a little but intriguing Greek epigraphic corpus from Torre San Giovanni, Lecce, Italy. During the Hellenistic age, the place was a harbour dependent on Uzentum/Οὔξεντον, the important Messapic centre located in the area of the modern municipality of Ugento, Lecce. It hosted a Greek-Tarentine enclave with a sanctuary of Artemis-Bendis. Four ostraka and a little lead foil, which refer to the activities of the landfall and of the cult place, reveal some remarkable details. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
