Abstrakt: The effect of electrolyte composition is studied on achieving the polishing stage for titanium alloys exposed to the plasma electrolytic effect. The investigations are performed using an example of polishing of titanium alloy VT6 in a three-component aqueous electrolyte containing NaF, NH2OH·HCl, and KCl. It is shown that the ratio of NaF and NH2OH·HCl protolyte salts can lead either to formation of oxide films or to their anodic dissolution in presence of a ligand resulting in clean non-anodized metal surface accompanied by a decrease in roughness (polishing effect). It is established that the polishing effect can be achieved at a certain NaF to NH2OH·HCl ratio which provides for forming hydrogen fluoride in an amount sufficient to dissolve oxide films deposited on the treated surface.
