Abstrakt: In this paper, melt blending process was adopted to add nanocalcined kaolin into flame-retardant grade ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer, and thus, flame-retardant ethylene vinyl acetate nano-composite with high insulation property was prepared. The structure, mechanical properties and electrical properties of ethylene vinyl acetate composite were tested and characterized. The results of the tensile test showed that the tensile strength of the composite was reduced and the tensile modulus of the composite was increased after the addition of calcined kaolin; the results of the electrical properties test showed that the breakdown strength first increased and then decreased along with more addition of calcined kaolin, and the dielectric loss first decreased and then increased along with more addition of calcined kaolin, while the volume resistivity showed a continuous rising trend. The results of small-angle X-ray scattering test showed that the addition of calcined kaolin reduced the expansion range of EVA molecular chain, which was the major reason to cause the variation in electrical properties.
