Abstrakt: Travis Linnemann's book, "The Horror of Police," challenges the traditional understanding of the police genre by arguing that it should be read as a horror story rather than a tale of professionalization and bureaucratization. Linnemann explores how even seemingly celebratory or banal representations of the police cannot escape the underlying violence that defines the institution. The book examines various narrative frameworks and genres, such as bad cop stories, apocalyptic narratives, dystopian science fiction, and siege narratives, to reveal how they distract from and disclose the horror of policing. Linnemann also explores the challenges and limitations of imagining a world without police, offering important insights for police abolitionists. [Extracted from the article]
