Abstrakt: | A recent study conducted by researchers in the Ultrasound Department explored the feasibility of a new surgical technique that combines B-scan ultrasound with modern vitrectomy techniques. The study enrolled 12 patients with infectious keratitis endophthalmitis who were not candidates for transient keratoprosthesis. The ultrasound-guided vitrectomy procedure was successful in achieving inactivation of endophthalmitis in 66% of patients. However, two patients experienced uncontrolled infection leading to evisceration, and two others had retinal detachment during follow-up. The researchers concluded that more studies are needed to assess the safety profile and optimize outcomes of this technique. [Extracted from the article] |
