Abstrakt: | A recent study conducted by the University of Utah School of Medicine has identified a rare variant in the MDH2 gene that is associated with a predisposition to recurrent breast cancer in high-risk pedigrees. The researchers sequenced five cousin pairs with recurrent breast cancer and found 181 rare candidate predisposition variants shared among them. The study suggests that the identified mutation in MDH2 alters the NAD+ binding pocket electrostatics of the protein. These findings provide valuable insights into the genetic factors contributing to breast cancer recurrence and highlight the importance of further research in this area.
