A study conducted at the Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute in Hyderabad, India, has found that it is possible to reduce the dose to the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) in patients undergoing left whole-breast radiotherapy without compromising target volume coverage. The study used tomotherapy techniques and compared the dose-volume histogram parameters of plans that included the LAD as an organ at risk (OAR) with those that did not. The results showed a reduction in LAD dose without affecting target volume coverage. This research provides valuable insights into reducing the risk of heart disease in patients receiving radiotherapy for left-sided breast cancer. [Extracted from the article] |
