A recent report from Harvard Medical School discusses the consent policies for medical students performing pelvic exams under anesthesia (EUA). The study found that medical students have low confidence in their ability to perform pelvic exams and that explicit disclosure and consent are necessary to balance the educational needs of students with patients' bodily autonomy. The research surveyed obstetrics and gynecology clerkship directors and found that most medical school affiliated hospitals have consent policies for pelvic EUA, but these policies need to be further strengthened and standardized to protect patients' rights while teaching students the pelvic exam.
