Adult web camming sites are an increasingly popular outlet for computer-mediated social and sexual connection; specifically, that between clients and paid models. Through the lens of self-determination theory, the current study aimed to analyze how sexual and emotional needs related to perceptions of improvement in domain-general communication skills. Using linear regressions, results showed that both models (n = 327) and clients (n = 2047) reported positive effects on their communication skills when they felt either emotionally fulfilled or sexually satisfied by their online interactions on the camming site. These findings provide support for future research investigating computer-mediated interpersonal interactions on camming sites and their association to the effects of in-person relationships.
