Veterinarians possess greater risk of infection because of interaction with variety of animals. The risk of hazard can be minimized by applying preventive measures like personal protective equipment includes masks, gloves, apron, eye shields, face shields and shoe covers etc. A cross sectional study was carried out in year 2018 by survey among field and academic veterinarians. The data collected, calculated and represented in tabular forms using self-administered questionnaire. The study revealed that veterinarians were wearing one or other form of protective equipment like gloves, apron, goggles and proper hand washing. Percentage of females using protective gears was more than males. Information about prophylactic vaccination showed that participants were vaccinated against tetanus, rabies and measles. The details of deworming practices concluded that 42% male and 47.4% females followed routine deworming within every 6 months. About routine medical check-up, 3.6% male and 7.6% female veterinarians go for medical check-up in every 3 months but 79.2 % male and 58.5% female veterinarians rarely go for medical check-up. The study concluded that there is need to create more awareness among veterinarians to adopt various safety and preventive measures to abate occupational hazards. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
