Abstrakt: Researchers at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine have conducted a study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture (EA) for relieving itching in atopic eczema (AE). AE is a common inflammatory skin disease that affects a significant portion of the population. Pruritus, or itching, is a burdensome symptom of AE that can lead to a cycle of itching, scratching, and skin damage. The study will involve 132 participants with AE who will be randomly assigned to receive EA, sham electroacupuncture, or sham acupuncture. The primary outcome measure will be the Visual Analog Scale to evaluate pruritus. Secondary outcome measures include the Eczema Area and Severity Index and Dermatology Life Quality Index. The trial is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov. [Extracted from the article]
