A study conducted at the Ninth People's Hospital in Chongqing, China, explored the potential of the Mycobacterium vaccae vaccine to improve immune recovery in AIDS patients. The study involved 100 patients who were randomly assigned to receive either the vaccine, growth hormone, or a placebo. After 48 weeks of treatment, the vaccine and growth hormone groups showed improvements in immune function, including increased CD4+ T cells and decreased Treg and Th2 cells. Additionally, the vaccine group had a lower rate of secondary infections compared to the placebo group. The study suggests that the Mycobacterium vaccae vaccine may have potential in improving immune reconstitution in AIDS patients. [Extracted from the article] |
