A recent study conducted at the University of Illinois has found that neuraminidase (NA) is a potential target for influenza vaccines. The researchers isolated three N2 antibodies from a single vaccine recipient, one of which cross-reacts with NAs from H3N2 strains over the past five decades. These antibodies were shown to provide prophylactic and therapeutic protection in vivo through Fc effector functions and NA inhibition. The findings of this study contribute to the development of a broadly protective influenza vaccine. [Extracted from the article] |
