Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers at "Sapienza" University of Rome investigated the validity of simulation-based assessment of robotic-assisted cardiac surgery skills using a wet lab model. The study focused on the use of a time-based score (TBS) and modified Global Evaluative Assessment of Robotic Skills (mGEARS) score. The results showed that both the mGEARS score and TBS could reliably discriminate between different levels of competence for certain tasks, such as atrial closure and mitral stitches, but not for internal thoracic artery (ITA) dissection. The study suggests that combining both assessment tools can enhance the evaluation of proficiency in robotic cardiac surgery, leading to standardized preclinical training and credentialing.
