Dependence on wheat, rice, and potatoes is increasing nowadays. Therefore exploration for edible tuberous plants is necessary to assess of a potentially reliable staple food resource. This study aims to understand the diversity of tuber crops in North Maluku and to add the number of specimen collections in Herbarium Bogoriense. North Maluku is a province of Indonesia. It covers the northern part of the Maluku Islands, bordering the Pacific Ocean to the north, the Halmahera Sea to the east, the Molucca Sea to the west, and the Seram Sea to the south. The exploration was conducted using the exploring method, including collection, identification, and description on 23 May – 5 June 2022. From this exploration, several specimens were collected, namely Alocasia macrorrhizos, Amorphophallus muelleri, A. paeoniifolius, Colocasia esculenta, Xanthosoma sagittifolia, (Araceae family), Manihot utilissima (Euphorbiaceae family), Canna indica (Canna family) and Dioscorea alata, D. bulbifera, D. esculenta and D. hispida (Dioscorea family). Short descriptions of all species found in the North Maluku (Ternate, Tidore, Halmahera Islands) and a key to the species are provided. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
