The construction industry is currently facing a significant opioid crisis, particularly affecting construction workers. These workers are twice as likely to have a substance abuse disorder compared to the general population, and they account for about 25% of fatal opioid overdoses among all workers. The connection between the construction industry and opioids is often due to job-related injuries, as workers are prescribed opioids at a higher rate than the general public. Efforts are being made to prevent workplace injuries, educate workers about the dangers of opioids, and provide resources for treatment and recovery.
