Calculation of electromagnetic radiation power of plasma of high-current vacuum arc.

Abstrakt: The work considers the radiation properties of the arc arising during the operation of vacuum switches of high-current electric circuits. A high-current vacuum arc is considered in which heating the anode to high temperatures leads to intensive evaporation of the electrode material. The plasma of metal vapors in such a discharge fills the interelectrode gap and emits intensively. To calculate radiation losses of energy from the arc, the problem of transferring radiation in the discharge plasma is formulated and solved. The method of calculation of energy losses for radiation from high-current vacuum arcs is proposed. Calculations of arc plasma composition between copper electrodes were made. The power of radiation losses in the infrared, visible and ultraviolet spectrum ranges is calculated. Calculations were made in a wide range of plasma pressures and temperatures. It has been shown that in high-current vacuum arcs, energy losses for radiation in the ultraviolet range prevail. Their share is∼57%. The proportion of energy emitted in the visible and infrared spectrum ranges is∼35% and∼8%, respectively. It is shown that when the pressure increases to 1 atm, the radiation power of the vacuum arc reaches 10 kW with a diameter of electrodes of 30 mm and an interelectrode distance of 4 mm. The study shows that when considering the energy balance of a high-current vacuum arc, it is necessary to take into account the energy loss for radiation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
