Infrastructure projects on the railway are capital-intensive and have a long payback period. When choosing an option for implementation of an infrastructure project, it is necessary to solve several methodological tasks: to evaluate the effectiveness of possible options, choose the best of them, determine the duration of the project. To solve these problems, the authors of the article consider the features of evaluating the effectiveness of infrastructure projects in railway transport, the classification of infrastructure projects is given, the main effects of the implementation of infrastructure projects in railway transport are considered, considering the specifics of arrangement of railway transport management in the Russian Federation. The authors of the article pay special attention to the issues of assessing the effect of the implementation of investment projects and its calculation for the selection of a railway section for electrification in the long term. When choosing the electrification option, the issues of a systematic approach to assessing the consequences of decisions taken, the problems of the complexity of taking into account the results of electrification of railway lines and determining the effect for the owner of the railway infrastructure are considered. The article raises problems related to interpretation of the results of the evaluation of investment projects for the electrification of railway sections.
