This article discusses the role of department chairs in fostering equity in the recruitment and hiring processes at universities. It emphasizes the importance of hiring diverse faculty members to promote inclusive excellence and support an increasingly diverse student body. The article provides practical suggestions for finding and hiring diverse applicants, such as creating inclusive departmental environments, connecting with diverse feeder institutions, and using networks and conferences to recruit underrepresented scholars.
