The editorial discusses the importance of sustainable composite construction materials in creating environmentally friendly and energy-efficient buildings. It highlights the need for the construction industry to reduce its carbon footprint and emphasizes the development and utilization of sustainable materials. The special issue of the Journal of Composites Science features ten articles that cover various topics related to sustainable construction, including lightweight bricks, eco-sustainable cement mixes, fly ash-based concrete slabs, steel-fiber-reinforced concrete beams, sugarcane bagasse ash, engineered cementitious composites, bricks made from recycled plastics and bitumen, smart mortar layers, and crack detection techniques. The articles provide a comprehensive understanding of the current challenges in sustainable construction and showcase a collaborative synergy between academic and industrial research. The editorial acknowledges the contributions of the authors and peer reviewers and expresses gratitude to the managing editors for their support.
