Abstrakt: This study investigates the tuning of the parameters of a proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller to control the level of liquid inside a tank by controlling the fill and discharge valves according to a setpoint (SP). The PID controller compares the process variable (PV) signal obtained using the level sensor and the SP; the difference between the two is termed as the error. This comparison shows that the PID controller produces an output signal to control the opening or closing of the fill and discharge valves. Many liquid-level control systems suffer from instability owing to the large error; therefore, this study seeks to obtain a stable system by reducing the error. The PID controller determines how much and how quickly the correction is applied by using different amounts of proportional, integral, and derivative actions. Each block provides a unique signal, and these are collected to produce the controller output signal. Thereafter, the change in the amount of error before and after the parameters of the PID controller are tuned is compared. We used the FACTORY I/O and Siemens' Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal programs for performing simulations in our study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
