This article describes a laparoscopic retroperitoneal technique for creating a sigmoid end colostomy in a patient who underwent surgery for rectal cancer. The procedure involves creating a retroperitoneal canal and pulling the sigmoid colon through to the outside. The technique was successful in this case, with no complications or signs of parastomal hernia at the one-year follow-up. The authors suggest that this retroperitoneal approach may be a viable alternative to the more common prophylactic mesh placement for preventing parastomal hernias. [Extracted from the article] |
