A recent report from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski in Bulgaria explores the connection between celiac disease (CD) and infertility. CD is an autoimmune condition triggered by gluten exposure, and it can lead to reproductive abnormalities such as repeated miscarriages and low birth weight infants. The study suggests that CD-related antibodies may hinder trophoblast invasiveness and damage endometrial angiogenesis, potentially contributing to infertility. Nutrient deficiencies, such as zinc and folic acid, may also play a role. The research aims to provide a comprehensive review of the existing literature on this topic and shed light on the pathogenesis of CD-related infertility. [Extracted from the article] |
