A recent study conducted by researchers at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China, explored the role of methylcrotonyl-CoA carboxylase subunit 1 (MCCA) in multidrug resistance in multiple myeloma (MM). The study found that patients with high MCCA expression had better overall survival rates. Knockdown of MCCA in MM cells resulted in higher survival rates after treatment with anti-MM drugs. Mechanistic studies revealed that MCCA knockdown cells had dysfunctional mitochondria and altered levels of apoptosis-related proteins. The study suggests that MCCA may contribute to multidrug resistance in various human cancers. [Extracted from the article] |
