A recent systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by researchers at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil evaluated the efficacy and safety of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for residual or recurrent ampullary neoplasia with intraductal extension after endoscopic papillectomy (EP). The study included seven selected studies with a total of 124 patients. The results showed that RFA was associated with a clinical success rate of 75.7% and a recurrence rate of 24.3%. However, adverse events such as biliary stricture, pancreatitis, cholangitis, and bleeding were also observed. The researchers concluded that RFA is a feasible and effective alternative therapy, but further long-term follow-up and high-quality studies are needed to confirm these findings.
