A new report from the University of Trieste in Italy discusses the prevalence and diagnostic criteria of sarcopenic obesity (SO) in older adults. The researchers used the ESPEN-EASO consensus algorithm for screening and diagnosis, which includes measures of muscle strength and mass. The study found a 9% prevalence of SO in older adults with obesity, and identified insulin resistance and altered plasma ghrelin profile as risk factors for SO. This research provides valuable insights into the diagnosis and risk factors of SO in older adults. [Extracted from the article] |
