A new study on colon cancer conducted in Zhejiang, China, explores the heterogeneity of colorectal cancer (CRC) and its tumor microenvironments (TMEs). The study analyzes the host transcriptomes and intratumoral microbiome profiles of CRC samples, identifying distinct host genes and microbial genera among the consensus molecular subtypes (CMSs) of CRC. The study also evaluates immune microenvironments and microbial co-abundance patterns within the TMEs. The findings shed light on the complex interactions between host genes, intratumoral microbiota, and the TME, providing insights into the mechanisms underlying CRC heterogeneity and potential therapeutic targets.
