Pure premium calculation of dry weather-based insurance for Wonogiri farmers.

Abstrakt: Although crop insurance product in Indonesia is currently limited to the Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) one offered by the Rice Farming Insurance (AUTP), there is another type that does not use field damage as a prerequisite for claim but uses the weather instead. This study is conducted to analyze the relationship between rainfall and paddy productivity and to calculate the pure premium of a weather-index insurance (WII) product for paddy in the scope of Wonogiri Regency that locates in Central Java, Indonesia. The premium calculation adopts Black Scholes formula and involves a Stochastic Weather Generator simulation. This WII product initiative is expected to be an alternative to the current AUTP product. Research result on drought protection suggests that when the rainfall amount is below 100 mm/month, farmers can request for a claim and receive indemnity of IDR 13.6 milion. For a certain amount of sum insured, different drought protection level requires different amount of insurance premium. Claim proceeds can be used by farmers as an immediate capital for the next planting process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
